Toddlers & Tiaras
My roommate has recently taken in watching the television series Toddlers & Tiaras. For those who are not familiar with it, it's a reality TV show based on the lives of mothers and their toddlers who enter beauty pageants. At first glance it seems adorable, non-hostile, and harmless really. But as you watch the show you begin to realize the horror of our society and what mother's can view as acceptable behavior towards their children. In my opinion? The show is a pure example of media glorified child abuse, and it's disgusting. Mother's put fake eye lashes on their daughters, take them to get mani-pedi's, even to tanning salons. These are babies! 2,3, and 4 year old little babies. To submit them to such ridiculous shenanigans is not only emotionally damaging but physically as well. Take a hint: if you want your children to build confidence, teaching them that they need to dress up to be anything is not the way to do it. You should be teaching your daughters that they are beautiful just they way they are. Therein lies your problem. These kinds of shows make me wonder why I still have hope for humanity.
